The Hong Kong Geopark Day Trip

201111261424
The Hong Kong Geopark located within the East and Northeast New Territories. This park features eight scenic areas and showcases the major exotic landforms in Hong Kong. UNESCO included the Hong Kong Geopark in its “Global Geoparks Network,” qualifying as one of the 87 global geoparks in the world.

During the tour, we visited the High Island Geo-Area. We traveled along the coast of the High Island Reservoir and saw the nearly vertical, towering volcanic rock columns. Additionally, we visited the Sharp Island Geo Trail, which is located on the western coast of Sharp Island. There we saw volcanic rocks from different geological periods. Lastly, we had the opportunity to walk the tombolo, which links Sharp Island and Kiu Tau. It is interesting to note that the sand bar is only accessible at low tide.

This trip was a very meaningful activity, helping us learn more about the unique landforms and landscapes in Hong Kong. It also provided a very good opportunity for us to educate our children about the importance of environmental preservation. Overall, we enjoyed a fun and rewarding weekend.
