Product Development
The research and development of new equipment, raw materials, secondary processes, and the latest construction techniques ensure a high quality and cost-efficient product.
Two internal business units are responsible for supporting your product development needs:
The Quality Assurance (QA) Department is responsible for the pre-production process. This team studies new concepts, focusing on feasibility, construction techniques, and production workflow.
The Novel Technology Development (NTD) Department is responsible for conducting research and development of new technologies and materials. August of 2009 marked the completion of the Leo Innovative Technology Center. This 6–story building, located at our Heshan plant provides facilities such as R&D laboratories, offices. This enables clients to explore new processes and materials in order to differentiate their products in the marketplace.
In December 2008, we became the first organization in China to gain PSO (Process Standard Offset) certification, which was awarded by Ugra, the Swiss Center of Competence for Media and Printing Technology. It means that our printing processes and products are fully compliant with PSO and ISO12647-2:2007 printing standards.
There are five areas which are the ultimate goals for improvement. They are:
- Time: save processing time / reduce lead-time / increase efficiency, etc.
- Money: reduce wastage / reduce process cost or gain profit
- Quality: improve quality
- Delivery: reduce time or cost in courier
- Manpower: reduce manpower in process
This translates into total quality and consistency in the finished product, with better efficiencies and less waste in the production process. Our clients can spend less coordination time on site with more time to focus on their own core business.
The PSO not only delivers specifications but also enables a continuous and simple quality control.
Flow2Press is a new and fully automated virtual prepress system which streamlines the preparation of client files and workflow to create improved quality controls, enhanced efficiencies and accelerated output. With the ability to collaborate closely throughout the graphics process, the system strengthens both communication and partnership with our clients. The result is higher productivity, a shorter production cycle, reduced errors as well as improved costs.
The System’s benefits include —
- Manpower savings as it performs the repetitive tasks in pre-media production automatically
- Eliminating the need for hard copy proofs
- Reducing errors and trimming waste with the use of centralized print and production management
- On–line tracking of job status and review of project progress over the Internet
- Consistent and quality results on any press, in any area, as supplied files are automatically color profiled to the actual press used
Manufacturing
With over 19,000 skilled employees, all trained in operating sophisticated machinery, completing complicated tasks, and assuring quality, we are capable of producing almost any project and volume.
Prepress
We have the latest prepress technology and equipment, including advanced color-management systems, scanners, CTF, CTP, digital- and press-proofing machines. Soft-proofing capabilities ensure the best possible results at the prepress stage.
Printing
We possess an array of printing presses with 2-color to 8-color capacities that produce both quality and volume. A forward-looking equipment acquisition plan ensures that our line of printing presses will continue to grow in order to meet your own growth and production demands.
Finishing
With a number of lamination and UV coating machines and up-to-date lamination and varnishing techniques, we offer products with a variety of different finishes. We also offer a wide variety of die-cutting machines for your particular needs.
Binding
Our assembly line is capable of completing the folding, collating, sewing, and binding processes with high-productivity case makers, casing-in lines, saddle-stitching and perfect-binding machines.
Quality Assurance
Quality assurance is a priority throughout the entire production process, from the initial stages to final inspection.
Our department evaluates and analyzes techniques and workflow before a project even begins.
They also develop construction methods to provide more high quality product options for our clients.
Quality Assurance Team
The primary function of the Quality Assurance Team (QAT) is to understand the technical aspects of all products and to monitor the quality of incoming materials and outgoing products.
Final Inspection Center
The mission of the Final Inspection Center (FIC) is to make sure that goods arriving at and departing from the factory are in excellent condition. FIC uses advanced testing devices and follow international standards to conduct transportation tests on all products, ensuring that they arrive safe and sound at their final destinations. Inspection on final product is also performed based on sampling plan methods on a lot basis to assure the products are the same high quality our customers expect.
To avoid any possible conflict of interest, FIC is an independent unit within the company and reports directly to the Leo Board of Directors.
