The Lacey Act, which is the United State's oldest wildlife protection statute, has been amended to expand its protection to a broader range of plants and plant products. The Act now states that it is unlawful to import certain plants and plant products without an import declaration. The enforcement period will extend from December 15, 2008 to September 30, 2010. Based on the phase-in schedule, most of Leo's manufactured products will fall into phase IV, which will only be effective from April 1, 2010 to September 30, 2010.
At Leo, we continue to keep a close eye on the requirements in order to make preparations that help insure we comply with these rules and guidelines. You can peruse these and upcoming new requirements in detail at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) website at www.aphis.usda.gov/plant_health/lacey_act/. We shall also keep you informed of any additional updates. Please feel free to check with our sales representatives for more details, if needed.
